Yet in truth society already contains the foundations for freedom in the form of non-state institutions that make civilization possible. Civil society and markets - individuals, families, religious and social institutions, private business, even private legal systems - exist quite peaceably without government.

Governments compete with civil society and seek to tear these institutions down, enriching the political class while positioning the state as "indispensable." But in fact the opposite is true: civil society expands and flourishes in the absence of state intervention, capably performing those functions the state claims for itself.

This seminar will examine the institutions of a stateless society and explore topics such as private defense, private police, privately produced money, the role of markets, and how stateless legal systems would work.

See a stateless future through pragmatic eyes, as we look to historical examples and clear-eyed analysis of how societies would secure life, liberty, and property through private, competing organizations in all aspects of life.

Tentative Schedule (all times Pacific)
Grand Ballroom

9:00 a.m. Bookstore opens (recommended time to purchase books for speakers to autograph)
9:30-10:20 a.m. Registration, Coffee
10:20 a.m. Welcome
10:30 a.m. Jeff Deist "The Case for Optimism"
10:50 a.m. David Gordon "Thinkers Who Challenged the State"
11:10 a.m. Lew Rockwell "Against the State"
11:30 a.m. Presentation of the 2014 Mises Entrepreneurship Award to Louis E.
